My Approach

Integrative mental health and sleep medicine for people who want more than a prescription — and a clinician who understands why that matters.

ABOUT / CREDIBILITY SECTION

A clinician shaped by emergency medicine, endurance sport, and a 30-year meditation practice.

Matt Battaglia, PA-C, spent 14 years in emergency medicine before transitioning into integrative psychiatry — not as a departure from science, but as a deeper commitment to it.

In the emergency department, you can't separate the mind from the body. A patient's sleep history, their chronic stress, their nervous system — it's all right there in front of you. Those years taught me that the most important questions in mental health often aren't being asked in a standard 15-minute psychiatric appointment.

I've lived with disrupted sleep. I know what it means to lie awake at 3 a.m. with a mind that won't stop — and to feel the cumulative weight of that on mood, energy, and resilience. That experience deepened my commitment to sleep medicine and led me to advanced training in CBT-I, the gold-standard behavioral treatment for insomnia that most people have never been offered.

I've also maintained a meditation practice since the 1990s — not as a spiritual identity, but as a clinical tool and a personal discipline that has shaped how I understand the nervous system and what genuine recovery actually feels like.

This practice exists because I believe people deserve care that addresses all of it — the sleep, the stress physiology, the nervous system, the medication question, and the life they're actually trying to live.

WHY THIS PRACTICE

This isn't standard psychiatry. It's what psychiatry should have been all along.

Most psychiatric care is organized around 15-minute medication checks. This practice is organized around understanding your nervous system, your sleep, your history, your lifestyle, and your goals — then building a plan that reflects all of it.

Integrative psychiatry without the woo. Grounded in neuroscience, honest about what works, and genuinely invested in your recovery.
